Step 2: Hope - Preston's Story about Drug Addiction Recovery
Preston was living in a basement with his brother, who was also addicted to heroin and cocaine, when their intense cravings finally drove them to steal. Preston wondered if he could ever be forgiven, so he prayed to find out. The hope he felt in response to his prayer was the beginning of a miraculous recovery. -
Step 3: Trust in God - Sharon’s Story about Crystal Meth Addiction Recovery
At first, Sharon was addicted to staying thin. She thought small, seemingly harmless doses of crystal meth could help her lose a few pounds. Before she knew it, she was completely addicted to the drug. Her marriage and family relationships were crumbling, but she couldn’t stop and wondered if she actually wanted to. She discovered that trusting in God was her only chance to not just escape, but to find happiness again. -
Step 4: Truth - Austin’s Story about Addiction Recovery
Austin never thought his drug addiction would hurt the people he loved. When drug dealers threatened his family for information on his location, he knew he had to change. But how could he? Was there any good left in him? In the addiction recovery program, Austin learned the truth: God had given him many good qualities, and He had the power to help Austin uncover them again. -
Step 5: Confession - Moroni's Story About Drug Addiction Recovery
Moroni tells his story about addiction, recovery, and the 12-step program. Step 5 - Confession: Admit to yourself, to your Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, to proper priesthood authority, and to another person the exact nature of your wrongs. Those who face addictions often struggle with the consequences of their choices for many years, sometimes for their whole lives. The outcomes that are portrayed in this video series do not reflect the possible range of outcomes that may be experienced by others. If you or someone you love is experiencing these challenges, or would like more information about addiction recovery, please visit addictionrecovery.lds.org. -
Step 6: Change of Heart - Aram’s Story about Drug Addiction Recovery
Aram’s 15-year-old sister was kidnapped and killed, and several years later, both of his parents passed away. He felt betrayed by God. He turned to his drug addiction for comfort. It was his change of heart and his decision to turn back to God that allowed him to break free from the darkness and danger. Step 6 - Change of Heart: Become entirely ready to have God remove all your character weaknesses. Those who face addictions often struggle with the consequences of their choices for many years, sometimes for their whole lives. The outcomes that are portrayed in this video series do not reflect the possible range of outcomes that may be experienced by others. If you or someone you love is experiencing these challenges, or would like more information about addiction recovery, please visit http://addictionrecovery.lds.org. -
Step 7: Humility - Holly’s Story about Drug Addiction Recovery
Holly’s life seemed almost perfect from the outside, but her addiction to drugs nearly ended it all. As she recovered, she asked God to remove her shortcomings. Her humble question allowed Him to give her the peace, hope, and guidance she needed to become the person she yearned to be. -
Step 8: Forgiveness - Larry’s Story about Drug Addiction Recovery
Larry’s drug addiction started when he was a teenager, following a troubled childhood. He decided to run away from his broken home and went 13 years without speaking to his father. His anger at his parents fueled his addictive behavior. Seeking forgiveness for himself and for others was key to his recovery. -
Step 9: Restitution and Reconciliation - John’s Story on Drug Addiction Recovery
John was leading a double life, but soon his drug addiction took over everything else. In the space of two years, he lost his job, his house, and his family. When he finally faced the damaged he had caused in his life and the lives of those he loved, he wondered if there was any hope for the future. Because God helped him make amends, there was. -
Step 10: Daily Accountability - Adrienne’s Story about Cocaine Addiction Recovery
Adrienne kept her cocaine addiction secret from everyone, including her husband. When her habit threatened the lives of the medical patients she worked with, she decided to change, but she couldn’t do it alone. With the help of God and her husband, she continues to be honest with herself and stay accountable for her actions every day. -
Step 11: Personal Revelation - Lindsay’s Story about Heroin Addiction Recovery
Lindsay had surrendered herself to the idea that she would be addicted to heroin for the rest of her life. Her kids started living with her mom and she started living out of a car. By the time she was caught by the police, prayer and personal revelation seemed foreign to her. Then she discovered for herself that communication with God is the only hope for true recovery. -
Step 12: Service - Erik’s Story about Drug Addiction Recovery
One night, Erik’s drug addiction led him to overdose and fall three stories from a building. Still recovering from his addiction and his fall, Erik knows that sharing what he has learned with others who need help is one of the most miraculous aspects of recovery.

I thought to myself, ‘Just last week, I was balancing a handstand on the back of a moving horse, and here I am and I can’t even sit up on my own. Who am I? I’m not Cambry Kaylor. I’m a crippled version of what I used to be.” Sometimes Cambry is asked if she dreams of going back to that fateful day and preventing the accident that paralyzed her. His Grace: Am I Beyond Saving?
Have you ever felt the burden of grief or shame? Or the feelings of despair and hopelessness that come from making poor choices? Kelly did. She was lost. She was a drug addict, a prostitute, and she was unable to care for her children. Sometimes she didn’t even feel human. And what she was left with was a feeling of absolute fear, terror, and loneliness. Kelly felt convinced that she would never be worthy of the Savior’s love. But what she didn’t realize was that even though she thought she was beyond saving, God’s love is unconditional. It wasn’t until she began to consider the idea that maybe there could be hope in Jesus Christ that her healing began. Kelly’s life didn’t change overnight. But with the support of her family, and by seeking repentance, she began to feel forgiveness from her Savior. Do you know that God loves you? Do you know that you’re never too broken or too damaged for God’s grace to save you? Jesus Christ has the power to heal your wounds. -

Landscape of the Mind: Addiction Explained
Dr. Kevin McCauley turns complex neuroscientific concepts into easy-to-understand visual images that will help people in recovery feel better understood and their families and friends feel hope that recovery is possible. Addiction is never an escape from responsibility for our choices and our actions, but it does affect our brains like a disease that is difficult to control. Because addiction rewires the brain, the substances and behaviors we are addicted to may seem impossible to quit. However, there is hope; the brain can change. “We find healing and relief only when we bring ourselves to the feet of the great physician: our Savior, Jesus Christ,” said Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Seventy. Share this video with friends and family members struggling with addiction to show your support and to help them find hope and healing.
